Langeais Chateau was first a fortress built by the count of Anjou, Foulque Nerra, around the year one thousand. From this time, only the dungeon remains. As the visible facade from the town shows its impressive high towers, its drawbridge and machicolation, the back side looks more like a residence with its large windows opening on to the garden.
