Touraine and the Loire châteaux in a campervan

In the Loire Valley, major elements of French heritage sit at the heart of a vast natural area. This is a great playground for your motorhome holiday! The châteaux of the Loire Valley, which stretch over 200 kilometres, are a good reason to discover beautiful towns and famous vineyards.

Given the geographical spread of these major sites, the region is very suitable for touring. The roads are beautiful (especially the secondary network) and and free of heavy traffic, even at the height of the tourist season.

Touraine by campervan: Loire castles, villages, vineyards…

In most cases, you can park in vast and easily accessible car parks close to the major Loire Valley chateaux. This is the case, for example, with Amboise, à Azay-le-Rideau and Chenonceau.

In Tours, a service area near the aquatic centre of the lake allows you to park your motorhome during the day. From there, you can easily reach the city centre (10 minutes by bus or with your bikes) and visit the historic districts of Tours. However, if you want to stay for one or more nights, you will have to choose another area, or of course a campsite: those of Saint-Avertin (Onlycamp), La Ville-aux-Dames (les Acacias), Montbazon (La vallée de l’Indre), Ballan-Miré (La Mignardière) and Luynes (Les Granges) are close to Tours.

Also note that Touraine has 8 Camping-Car Park network sites, including Chenonceaux, which is particularly appreciated for its shady pitches, its proximity to the famous Château des Dames, its “Coeur de France à Vélo” (along the Cher River) and “La voie royale” (a 45 km loop linking Amboise and Chenonceaux) routes.
