Montrésor, south of Touraine Other noteworthy towns & villages

Many other towns in Touraine are definitely worth a stop, whether to do a little market shopping or stop at a flea market, or to visit a monument or go on a short hike. If you need a place to stay, camping or gites are readily available throughout Indre-et-Loire and the Loire Valley. You may wish to bring along a Loire travel guide.

Three villages in particular, all members of "Plus beaux villages de France" (France's most beautiful villages), are noteworthy: Montrésor, Candes-Saint-Martin and Crissy-sur-Manse. On the other hand, Villaines-les-Rochers is known for its traditional French basketrywork: 70 basketry craftsmen are located in the town where wicker is worked year-round. Azay-le-Rideau, Langeais, Saché, Huismes, Bréhémont, Savonnières and Le Grand Pressigny should also be noted on your schedule.
